Caillebotte's "Floor Scrapers" at the Musée D'Orsay

Caillebotte's "Floor Scrapers" at the Musée D'Orsay

The Musée D’Orsay is one of my favorite art spaces in the world but when I visited in 2012 they didn’t allow photography. I have a number of photos like this one that I took to help me remember the images that had the most impact on me. This astonishing painting—surrounded by colorful paintings of flowers and haystacks and rich people—jumped out at me. The figures, the light, the composition, and the subject matter—it’s all so beautiful.

Oil on canvas, by French Impressionist Gustave Caillebotte it was painted in 1875 and caused a stir. You can get a better view online here.

The Musée D’Orsay has finally relaxed their photo policy (funny story) and I can’t wait to go back.
